Father's Day Interview DIY

For all my procrastinating friends.... Father's Day is THIS Sunday! Are you prepared to show off your love for your husband, father and/or grandfather? Of course you are!

But... just in case the gift part slipped your mind or you weren't planning on a gift. Here's a great idea I think those sweet men would melt for.

Father's Day Questionnaires

I love the whole idea of the questionnaire. Not only are you making a sweet gift, but your also capturing a moment in time that you'll have again. Capture. That. Moment.

So whip out those scrapbooking supplies and get on this today! That sweet man in your life will never know you waited til the last second.... and I'll never tell! Promise!

DIY Ornaments

Lately, I've been hearing a lot of talk about ornaments. A friend of mine mentioned that her mother has been giving her an ornament at Christmas time for ages! At our house we go out and let the kids each pick out one new ornament each year. I love looking back at old ornaments from when I was a kid.... they are a bit like a scrapbook all on their own.

What about making your OWN ornaments? I adore them, especially when created by children! Below is a roundup of some great DIY ideas that would be perfect for gift giving or just to enjoy creating for your own home!

Also, be sure to hit Everything Etsy for their list of 101 Handmade Ornament Tutorials!!!

Enjoy!

DIY Photo Journal

When you think of "photo journal" you might think of just a scrapbook or maybe even an art journal, but we are going to take "Photo Journal" to a very literal place!

The amazingly creative folks over at Photojojo have this super fun tutorial called How to Make a Journal with Photos for Pages, which was inspired by another amazing product called The Walls Notebook.

Supplies:
  • double-sided matte photo paper (or white cardstock)
  • pretty papers or washi tape for the outside binding
  • paper cutter
  • white glue (or a sewing machine)
Steps:
  • In a nutshell...you print your photos, cut them out and stick them together! Seriously, it's that easy!
  • For a full tutorial with photos head over to Photojojo
Here are some examples of this tutorial in action from the OSD team....

by Allison Waken

Allison took this idea and used it to create a stunning page for her December Daily album! Gorgeous!

Val followed the tutorial as it was written and look at what a stunning result! She noted that you should make sure you use a good amount of glue when you bind the pages together or they will come out. We wondered if rubber cement might work better? Regardless, it's amazing, could those photos be more beautiful?!

I decided to create a PHONE BOOK using the tutorial, with a few tweaks. I created a template in Photoshop, so I would still have my two photos on a page, but I made them a bit thinner. I was able to get 4 photos total on one sheet of paper. I left the adjoining photos connected rather than cutting them apart. Then I stacked them all up and stitched down the center creating my binding (be sure you have an appropriate needle for this!). The phone book & luggage photos are via Flickr. I still need to add in the actual phone numbers and some sort of clip to keep this sucker shut, but overall I like the way it came out.

I hope we've inspired you to give this project a shot! They'd make very sweet personalized Holiday gifts, don't you think?

DIY Advent Calendars

Lots of Holiday traditions are getting ready to kick off tomorrow and one I absolutely adore is the Advent Calendar. Kids LOVE having a visual to countdown how many days are left til Christmas day!

Advent Calendars themselves run the gamut from preboxed, candy filled versions, to those pricey ones from high end shops, to fun DIY crafty ones! Well, quite frankly, I'm a cheapo AND I'm a crafter, so you KNOW which option I'm going for, right? I started mine last night using my new Advent Jar 2 kit.

Here are some fun DIY ideas for you to bust out your own Advent Calendar... and don't stress if you can't get it thrown together TODAY, you can start the advent at anytime, I'm sure your kids won't mind getting extra doses of goodies for a few days to catch up! :)
